There is no formal school uniform at Blackpool Skills Academy. Instead, we ask students to come prepared for a day of practical, active and vocational learning.
From construction and hair and beauty to sport, enrichment and off-site activities, our students learn by doing. What they wear needs to help them take part safely, comfortably and confidently.

WHAT TO WEAR
Clothing Expectations
We don't expect expensive specialist clothing. We simply ask students to wear clothes that are suitable for an active school day and the practical sessions they will be taking part in.
Practical Footwear
Sturdy footwear suitable for workshops, salons and outdoor activities, such as strong trainers or work boots.
No open-toed footwear.Clothes for Doing
Durable, comfortable clothing that allows students to move freely and get involved in practical work.
Expect practical lessons to be hands-on.Dress for the Weather
Students may take part in outdoor learning, sport, visits and other activities away from the classroom.
Bring suitable layers when needed.You don't need to buy a special BSA uniform.
Clothing should simply be safe, practical and comfortable for the activities students take part in. We would also recommend avoiding expensive clothing that students would be worried about getting dirty during practical sessions.

Personal Protective Equipment
When specialist protective clothing or equipment is needed for learning, Blackpool Skills Academy provides it.
For construction and relevant practical activities.
For hair, beauty and other vocational sessions.
Including gloves, goggles and other PPE where required.
Students are expected to wear and use protective equipment correctly whenever instructed. Learning to work safely is part of learning to work professionally.

Why Practical Clothing Matters
Our classrooms don't always look like classrooms.
At Blackpool Skills Academy, students are building real-world skills through practical work.
One lesson might involve measuring and making in construction. Another might involve delivering a hair or beauty treatment, taking part in sport or working on an enrichment project.
We want students concentrating on the task, developing their skills and taking pride in what they produce, not worrying about damaging their clothes.

The standards we encourage at BSA are about more than clothing. Being properly equipped, following safety instructions, looking after equipment and taking responsibility for yourself are all habits that matter in the workplace.
