Clothing and Equipment
At Blackpool Skills Academy, we do not require students to wear a formal school uniform.
However, because of the practical and vocational nature of our curriculum — including activities in construction, hairdressing, beauty therapies, and other hands-on areas — we expect students to dress appropriately for the work they are doing.
Clothing Expectations
Students must wear:
- Sturdy, practical footwear suitable for workshops, salons, and outdoor activities (e.g., work boots or strong trainers — no open-toed shoes)
- Durable clothing that they don’t mind getting dirty during practical lessons and vocational sessions
- Weather-appropriate layers, especially for outdoor or off-site activities
Clothing should be safe, practical, and comfortable for the wide range of activities students take part in each day.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Where specialist clothing or equipment is needed, we provide all necessary PPE, including items such as:
- Safety boots for construction
- Protective aprons or gowns for hair and beauty sessions
- Gloves, goggles, and other equipment as required
Students are expected to wear PPE correctly whenever instructed, to ensure everyone’s safety during practical sessions.
Why Practical Clothing Matters
At Blackpool Skills Academy, students are building real-world skills through practical work.
Whether it’s working in a construction environment, running a beauty treatment session, or taking part in an enrichment project, students are active, hands-on, and learning by doing.
Wearing suitable clothing means they can get involved fully — without worrying about getting dirty or damaging clothes.
By working together to maintain safe, practical clothing standards, we help every student take pride in their work, stay safe, and get the most out of every learning opportunity.
