Blackpool Skills Academy is an independent provider of high-quality education and vocational training for young people in Blackpool. Our governance structure ensures that the Academy is well-led, effectively managed, and fully focused on delivering outstanding outcomes for all students.

Local Governing Board

The Local Governing Board at Blackpool Skills Academy plays a vital role in working alongside school leaders to set the strategic direction of the Academy. Governors provide support and challenge to the leadership team to ensure that standards remain high and that students are given every opportunity to succeed.

Governors work closely with the Headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school. Together, they help to ensure that Blackpool Skills Academy maintains a clear vision and a relentless focus on improvement. The responsibilities of the Governing Board include:

  • Setting and upholding the Academy’s strategic vision

  • Receiving assurance on the quality and effectiveness of the curriculum

  • Monitoring educational standards and pupil performance to drive successful outcomes

  • Working with school leaders to identify areas for improvement and agree strategies for development

  • Overseeing staff and student wellbeing, including behaviour and safeguarding arrangements

  • Ensuring that safeguarding procedures are robust and consistently applied across the Academy

  • Acting as a key link between the Academy, parents, carers, and the wider local community

  • Supporting the inclusion, participation, and success of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

  • Establishing a strong, supportive, and appropriately challenging relationship with the Headteacher

  • Ensuring that policies and practices are adapted to meet the specific needs of the Blackpool Skills Academy community
